Lisa Stansfield CD Review - Real Love

Lisa Stansfield CD Review – Real Love

Lisa Stansfield has come a long way since the late 80’s, when she formed her first band and was at the same time, the host of a local childrens television program. Just recently her second album‚ Real Love was released and her debut album‚ Affection has now passed the million mark in sales. How much further can she go? Quite far, judging by the material on her new album.

Lisa Stansfield sings her ballads in a very distinct style which is evident on the track “Time To Make You Mine.” To describe her style in one word, I’d have to say it’s hypnotising. On “All Woman,” Stansfield lets her hair down and admits that all she needs is a little love and on “Tenderly,” her strong but soulful voice is the highlight while only accompanied by a simple piano track.

Like her English counterpart Cathy Dennis, Ms. Stansfield has a knack for recording irresistible dance tunes and “Change” represents this perfectly. Not only does “Change” have a pulsating beat, its lyrics have meaning and speak of how important undying love really is. The following three lines show how smooth the lyrics flow, “Believing is the answer to all your fears / when I first said I loved you, I went in for the kill / Now when I say I love you, I mean I always will.”

Lisa Stansfield uses this album to prove she has soul. Not every song on this release appeals to me, but certain selections simply amaze me with their soulfulness. Lisa Stansfield has not only proven to me with this album that she has soul, but that she also has the sincerity to go with it.
