In your bio, you speak of your days as filled with auditions and filming and nights are filled with writing and then you wake up the next day and do it all over again. When do you sleep? When do you relax? When does Gizmo get taken for a walk?

Gizmo's Man Cave is a Purse-001

Haha, Gizmo doesn’t like to walk. He likes to be carried in his man cave (his purse, but he gets upset with me when I call it that).

Gizmo driving a red carTo be honest, there isn’t a lot of relax time at the moment when trying to break into the entertainment industry. There are thousands of people who come out to LA, everyday, for the same dream, which means we’re competing with tons of people that I need to keep our A-game up so we’re not lost in the dust. There are so many talkers in this town that the networks need to see your vision, see your films, see your projects and to create all of that is a lot of time and work. Gizmo knows that in the long run we will be able to relax more but for now we both need to work a little harder then normal to make our dreams a reality. The great thing is, Gizmo and I chose a career path that we both love. Being onset doesn’t feel like a job to us, it is actually our fun time! Gizmo loves being on camera and meeting new people! And so do I!

How do you determine success in Hollywood? Do you think everyone judges it the same? Please elaborate as much as possible for those who want to follow in your acting/directing/writing shoes.

I think there are two kinds of success that people look at for the Hollywood dream. The people who think being rich and famous is success and the others who think doing what you love is success. I use to have a job that paid really good money, where I could buy clothes for Gizmo at least once a week, but in reality I wasn’t happy. I loved the money don’t get me wrong, but the job wasn’t something I wanted to wake up for. Now that I have created my own film company “Why Wait Productions” (http://www.whywaitproductions.com) I can wake up every morning and work until the late hours because I enjoy being on set.

It doesn’t feel like a job to me, which is why I feel I am going towards real success. The people who think just becoming rich and famous right away is success, I don’t fully agree with. If you don’t sleep and breathe the industry you will not enjoy it because at times it is 14-18 hours a day of work. I know that there isn’t anything else I would rather do then work in the industry. If anyone feels that they could do something else I tell them to do that instead. I’ve been working in the industry for over eight years and I still make fewer than twenty thousand dollars a year. It takes a good ten years working really hard before things may happen. And just remember, that is a MAY, the entertainment industry is a gamble. If you can be broke for ten years and be happy working on free projects before you will see much money then this industry could be one to choose. As long as you LOVE it then please join us all in the fun chaos! But if this sounds not fun to you, run! Keep running and don’t look back! Because it will take a long time to get into the industry.

What a fantastic interview, Mr. Humek! Jahnna is so talented (and Gizmo too!)– I’ve been following her since she left our little hometown area and am very proud to know she is finally getting the attention she has earned and deserves. Go Jahnna!
